Annual gross pay

$52,000.00

Estimated annual take-home

$41,600.00

How this was calculated
  • Annual gross: $52,000.00 ÷ 26 paychecks = $2,000.00
  • Taxable: $2,000.00 − $0.00 = $2,000.00
  • Tax: $2,000.00 × 20% = $400.00
  • Take-home: $2,000.00 − $0.00 − $400.00 − $0.00 = $1,600.00

How this paycheck estimate works

This calculator first works out your annual gross pay, then divides it by the number of paychecks in a year for your chosen frequency. You can optionally subtract pre-tax deductions, an estimated tax rate and post-tax deductions for an approximate take-home figure.

  1. Annual gross — salary, or (wage × hours + overtime) × 52 for hourly workers.
  2. Gross per paycheck — annual gross ÷ 52, 26, 24 or 12.
  3. Taxable pay — gross minus pre-tax deductions.
  4. Estimated tax — taxable pay × your estimated rate.
  5. Take-home — gross − pre-tax deductions − tax − post-tax deductions.
Example: A $65,000 salary paid biweekly is $2,500 gross per paycheck. With $150 pre-tax retirement savings and a 20% estimated tax rate, tax is $470, giving an estimated take-home of $1,880.

Important: taxes are approximate

Real paychecks involve progressive income-tax brackets, Social Security and Medicare (or national insurance and pension contributions outside the US), state or provincial taxes, local taxes and individual circumstances. A single flat rate can't capture all of that. Use this estimate for budgeting only — it is not tax advice and shouldn't be relied on as a guarantee of your net pay. For exact figures, check your pay stub, your employer's payroll team or a tax professional.

Tips

  • Compare the estimate with a real pay stub and adjust the tax rate until they match.

Frequently asked questions

Is the take-home pay figure exact?

No. It's a simple estimate using the single tax rate you enter. Real withholding depends on federal, state and local taxes, filing status, allowances, benefits and other factors.

What tax rate should I enter?

If you have a recent pay stub, divide total taxes withheld by gross pay to get your effective rate. Otherwise, a rough estimate is fine for planning.

What are pre-tax deductions?

Amounts taken out before tax is calculated, such as traditional 401(k) contributions or some health insurance premiums. They reduce taxable income.

Why is my semimonthly check bigger than biweekly?

There are 24 semimonthly paychecks versus 26 biweekly ones, so the same annual pay is split into fewer, larger checks.
