How weekly pay is calculated
Weekly pay is the most direct way to see what a week of work is worth. It's especially useful if you are paid weekly, work variable shifts, or want to check a pay stub.
Weekly pay = (wage × regular hours) + (wage × overtime multiplier × overtime hours)
Regular vs overtime hours
In the United States, the Fair Labor Standards Act generally requires overtime at 1.5× for non-exempt employees working over 40 hours in a workweek. Rules differ by country, state and contract, so check your own terms. Enter overtime separately so it isn't counted twice.
Using weekly pay to plan
- Monthly equivalent = weekly × 52 ÷ 12 (not × 4).
- Annual equivalent = weekly × 52.
- If your hours vary, calculate a few typical weeks and average them.
Paid every two weeks? The biweekly pay calculator handles different hours in each week. For detailed overtime, including double time, see the overtime calculator.
